BCA: Forging the Future for Alabama Business and Industry

Since its founding in 1985, with the merger of the Alabama Chamber of Commerce and the Associated Industries of Alabama, the Business Council of Alabama has worked hard to improve Alabama's business climate. BCA's membership has grown to include more than 5,000 businesses and industries, giving it the distinction of having the third highest market penetration among state chambers and business councils nationwide. The BCA represents Alabama business, big and small. In fact, 89 percent of BCA members employ fewer than 100 employees, while 3 percent employ more than 500. On the strength of its 5,000 members, who employ more than three-quarters of a million Alabamians, the voice of Alabama is heard. Thanks to its strong and growing membership, the BCA is Alabama's foremost voice for business and industry. Thanks to its strong and growing membership, the BCA is THE unified voice for Alabama business and industry in Montgomery and Washington.

What is the BCA?

The Business Council of Alabama is a nonprofit 501c(6) organization noted for supporting legislation to reduce the cost of doing business in Alabama, defeating anti-business proposals that would hurt the bottom line of our state's businesses and industries and supporting candidates with a progressive vision for Alabama's economic future. As Alabama's foremost association of business and industry, the BCA is always first to stand up for free enterprise. Independently, and as part of united pro-business coalitions, the BCA has led the way in the fight for key business issues such as tort reform, fair taxation, economic development, education reform, business license reform, health care reform and works daily to defeat regulatory initiatives that are bad for business.

The BCA is an active member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Council of State Chambers, the Council of State Manufacturing Associations and the National Association of Manufacturers. In fact, the BCA is Alabama's only business organization to serve on the NAM's National Industrial Council, where the BCA helps form federal policy and tracks nationwide trends that stand to impact Alabama.

In 2004, the BCA forged an unprecedented partnership with the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama, which represents 118 local chambers that together represent 47,000 businesses. Cooperative efforts between the two organizations stress grassroots involvement at all levels of business and industry.
